Wetherby Whaler Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Winner 2016

Wildcats fan has a whale of a time with players

A Wakefield Trinity Wildcats fan had a whale of time after winning a meal at the Wetherby Whaler with players Danny Kirmond and Nick Scruton.

Avid Wildcats supporter Catherine Wilkinson, who is from Wakefield, won a meal for four with Wildcats’ captain, Danny Kirmond and fan favourite, Nick ‘Scrutes’ Scruton, after entering a competition on the Wetherby Whaler’s website.

Catherine, who has been a season ticket holder for 11 years, took along her brother Scott, nephew, Ryan, and friend Ian, with whom she regularly attends home matches, to the Calder Island restaurant to tuck into a meal of fish and chips with the two forwards.

Catherine, said: “I was absolutely ecstatic when I was found out that I had won the competition. I saw my name on Twitter and couldn’t believe it.

“I’m a massive Wildcats fan and have a membership card so I go to as many home games as possible. Danny Kirmond is one of my favourite Wildcat players so to have him at the meal really is the icing on the cake, or should I say batter on the fish.”

Phillip Murphy, who co-owns the Wetherby Whaler Group with his wife, Janine, said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to have been able to give such a big fan of the game a chance to meet her favourite player.

“We have a great relationship with the Wildcats. We sponsor their mascot, Daddy Cool, and many of the players go to our restaurant in Wakefield. I imagine we will be running another free to enter competition again soon and would encourage as many people as possible to enter.”
