Schoolchildren have Wetherby Whaler masterclass

Schoolchildren have 'whale of a time' during Wetherby Whaler masterclass

Schoolchildren in Bradford have been given a nutritional masterclass by one the region’s leading eateries.

Wetherby Whaler’s Guiseley restaurant hosted children with special educational needs from Killinghall Primary School, Bradford, who are carrying out a project on the nutrition of potatoes in a well-balanced and healthy diet.

Mark Savage, Head Frier at Wetherby Whaler, led the masterclass and educated the children on the Whaler’s entire cooking process of its chips, covering how the fish and chip chain sources, prepares and fries its potatoes.

The schoolchildren were then put through their paces in the kitchen by preparing and frying potatoes, before tucking into their chips!

Mark said: “It is crucial for youngsters to be educated about nutrition and to be aware of the role certain foods play in a balanced diet, as well as how they are sourced and prepared. We always enjoy either visiting schools or welcoming children to our restaurants, so they can experience first-hand the entire process of how their meals are prepared and cooked properly. The kids did a fantastic job in the kitchen with our staff, and were appropriately rewarded with some of our famous chips that they had a hand in making!”
